The Access All Areas programme, is a work experience programme whereby second level students from the Traveller Community in Cork are supported to access, participate, and progress in employment. Work placement is now an integral part of the senior cycle school curriculum, enabling students to gain valuable on-the-job experience in their preferred career area. Not only can it serve to provide actual work experience and learning opportunities, it also supports the student’s own career exploration as they can sample career areas of interest to them than can inform their future educational and training choices. For Traveller students access to work placement can be limited andchallenging. The Access All Areas programme adopts a two-pronged approach; i) recruiting and encouraging businesses and agencies to provide work experiences opportunities ii) supporting individual students to secure relevant work experience in collaboration with their respective school.
