Building Assistive Technology awareness, adoption and competency amongst students and educators is a key objective of the Enabling Transitions work stream. Assistive Technology (AT) in the Classroom: An Evaluation of Two Models of Practice depicts the adequacy and impact of two different Assistive Technology training programme approaches. Adopting a “Train the Trainer” model IT Carlow targeted teachers, Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) and Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to use AT in the classroom. WIT’s Assistive Technology Training Assisting Independent Success (ATTAINS) program focused on building students’ AT competency targeting second level DEIS school students with specific learning difficulties.
